Where curiosity becomes direction

Wayfinder Ventures LLC exists to help educators, leaders, and learners find better paths forward.

Founded by B. Bauer, Wayfinder Ventures brings together education, leadership, motivation, game design, and practical strategy to create tools that make learning more engaging, meaningful, and manageable. The goal is not to add more noise, more programs, or more complicated systems. It is to help people take ideas that work and turn them into practical next steps.

At the heart of Wayfinder Ventures is the belief that people learn best when they understand where they are going, why it matters, and how they can make progress along the way. Whether through books, professional development, classroom resources, consulting, or future projects, Wayfinder Ventures focuses on helping educators design experiences that build motivation, clarity, confidence, and connection.

The name “Wayfinder” reflects that mission. Great teaching and leadership are not about having every answer before the journey begins. They are about noticing the needs in front of you, choosing a direction with purpose, and helping others move forward.

Wayfinder Ventures is the home of Rules of Engagement: Game Theory Strategy for Educators and future resources designed to help educators rethink motivation, engagement, feedback, and classroom systems.

Find the path. Lead the way.

Personal Bio

Brandon Bauer is a Missouri educator, author, and professional learning facilitator with more than 13 years of experience serving students across K–8 settings. His work has included special education, social-emotional learning, instructional technology, teacher support, and educational leadership. Through his classroom experience, Bauer has worked closely with students who often struggle to see school as relevant, achievable, or worth the risk of participation.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, as well as graduate degrees in Instructional Technology and District Leadership from Fort Hays State University. His work focuses on helping educators create clearer, more motivating learning experiences that give students stronger reasons to participate, persist, and grow.

Why I Wrote Rules of Engagement

I wrote Rules of Engagement because I have seen too many capable students disengage from school long before anyone questions whether they are capable of learning. They are often labeled unmotivated, defiant, lazy, or unwilling, but many are responding logically to learning experiences that feel unclear, repetitive, risky, disconnected, or impossible to win.

As a special education teacher and social-emotional educator, I have worked with students who needed more than another consequence, reward, worksheet, or reminder to “try harder.” They needed clearer goals, visible progress, meaningful choices, timely feedback, and a reason to believe their effort mattered. This book grew from the belief that educators can redesign the learning experience without abandoning rigor, lowering expectations, or turning classrooms into games for the sake of entertainment.

My Personal Mission

My mission is to help educators create classrooms where students can see the purpose of learning, understand what success looks like, and believe they have a meaningful path forward. I believe engagement is not simply a student trait, but it is something teachers and schools can intentionally design through clarity, relationships, feedback, autonomy, challenge, and opportunities for growth.

Through Wayfinder Ventures, my goal is to provide practical ideas, tools, and professional learning that help educators move beyond compliance and build learning environments where more students feel capable, connected, and willing to engage.
